My brother and I have decided to start this page in hopes of alleviating some financial stress from our parents.
On December 13th, 2023 our father went in for kidney biopsy, supposedly a routine outpatient procedure. During procedure, doctors unknowingly had cut his left lung, resulting in lung collapse and nicked an artery causing internal bleeding. He was wheeled back to a recovery room where my mom and I were waiting. Over the next couple hours, we watched as my dad was losing his color and turning a ghostly white. He was having difficulty breathing. We kept asking doctors and nurses to look at him as something didn't feel right, only to be assured all was fine. Since he was complaining of pain, they administered pain relief and shortly after he fell asleep, or so we thought. After an hour of "sleep" nurses came back to check on him and he was not waking up. He was hemorrhaging and none of us knew, including the medical staff. He was then wheeled back to a CT scan which showed the collapsed lung and the internal bleed filling up his chest cavity with over 2 liters of blood.
An emergency surgery was preformed to save his life, a lung embolization thru a catheter that was placed in his right leg. Dad coded on the operating table but surgical team was able to bring him back. The same doctor who performed the biopsy preformed this emergency surgery and cut a nerve in the leg and my dad can no longer walk. He was intubated and spent the next 2 days in the ICU recovering.
Since then, he has been in and out of the hospital from complications; several trips to the emergency room for breathing problems; an infection in his affected lung; 4 separate chest tube implantations; a Video Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS) to pull his left lung off the inside of his chest wall. Dad has spent total of 44 days in hospital. He is no longer able to work and was laid off in September, and the financial stress of medical and monthly bills is catching up.
My brother and I have started this page in hopes of helping my parents pay for ongoing medical cost and monthly bills.
