On the 18th July 2026, I am being quite literally dragged up Ben Vorlich by my deputy manager Jas… and when I say dragged, I mean there is a very real possibility he will be considering a rope, pulley system, and maybe a small team of paramedics on standby.
Now, for context—I am not fit. I don’t “run,” unless it’s for a bus I still won’t catch. The last time I attempted a hill (Arthur's Seat, 5 years ago), I ended up on my hands and knees, questioning all my life choices and contemplating calling in an air ambulance. So while this might seem like a nice weekend stroll for some, for me it’s the equivalent of attempting a marathon up Mount Kilimanjaro… in flip flops… with a packet of crisps for training.
Despite the high likelihood of drama (and mild collapse), we’re doing this to raise money for the amazing residents at Millburn Homes. All funds raised will go towards our celebration day—“Now That’s What I Call Millburn” on 1st August—and any extra will help transform our activities room, which is currently a bit of a “before” picture rather than an “after” picture. With some love (and your donations), it’ll become a space that genuinely improves the day-to-day lives of our residents.
Jas will be hauling me up the Munro, and we’re hoping to rope in (pun intended) as many staff as possible—because the more of us struggling up a munro, the more money we can raise!
So please donate—if not for the residents (which you absolutely should), then at least for the very real possibility that I may never be seen again somewhere halfway up a Scottish munro.
