Miles for Meals: Feeding our Frontline Heroes
Welcome to the "Miles for Meals" Cycling Challenge!
My name is Caroline Fornaris, a local resident of the South Miami Area, a mother of 3 daughters and founder of the up and coming Why We Tri Podcast. Most importantly, I am a community member who wants to do more during this time of uncertainty.
In 2018, my mother, Kathleen K. Gardner, lost her fight against an infection that took over her healthy and independent 75 year old body in less than 10 days while in the ICU. Looking back, each hour by her side in the hospital was a gift. ICU Nurses: Kathy, John, Mary and many others worked tirelessly to ensure my mother's comfort. These Nurses worked around the clock and still made time to provide me with a warm blanket, pillow and occasionally snuck me some much needed apple juice.
If you knew my mother, feeding others was her passion. In honor of her love for feeding others in need and to those dedicated ICU Nurses I have decided to convert my love for triathlon training into a bigger purpose.
Triathlon Coach, Andy Clark of Alien Endurance and The Miami Tri Club and fellow teammate, Executive Chef Dimitiris Harvalis of FitByElia and Elia Cafe at Pinecrest, we have created a virtual cycling challenge "Miles for Meals."
This challenge will help promote a positive safe activity where individuals, near and far can contribute to this Go Fund Me Page in an effort to provide meals for those on the front lines of this pandemic here in South Miami.
Executive Chef, Dimitiris Harvalis and his skilled team have stepped up to the plate in a major way. FitByElia is offering nourishing meals via donations collected here and delivering them to our Frontline Heroes.
Our goal as a Triathlon Club is to reach 10,000 miles in 10 days and feed 2,000 of our Frontline Heroes here in South Miami by raising $10,000.
For every $5 we raise a Frontline Hero will receive a nutritious meal.
1 Meal = $5 10 Meals = $50 20 Meals = $100
We look forward to going the distance for our local hospital healthcare workers and first responders, as they are so selflessly going the distance for us and our loved ones.
Thank you in advance for your contribution!
