Milan Bike Guy 2024
In 2022, my husband (Vern White) had a total right knee replacement. The doctors said that he would not be able to ride his bike for the next few months. Not wanting to sit idle, Vern asked the neighbors if anyone had any children's bicycles in need of repair that he could tinker on while he was recovering. Our neighbors came through for him, and we ended up with six bicycles in our yard.
As the keeper of the household funds, I quickly realized that this would not be something that we could do financially on our own, so I started a GoFundMe for $250. ( I was worried that the neighbors would complain about the six bicycles if they sat there too long.)
Within a week, we had $550 in the GoFundMe, and 12 bicycles in our yard. Since that time, we have gifted over 500 bicycles to people who needed them. We now do children's bikes, adult bikes, and children's and adult size trikes. We currently have three 10' x 20' pop-up carports filled with bicycles in need of repairs in our neighbors yard, and even they are overflowing! And to think, just two summers back I was worried about six bikes! lol
The support of our community has been tremendous. Folks have donated parts through our Amazon wishlist, and many people do give donations when they receive a bike. However, the costs have outweighed the donations significantly. So we are again asking for help from the local community to keep us going. We love what we do, and we believe that others do too. Please help us to be able to keep doing it.
Thank you for reading our story, and thank you for all of the support we have received these past few years. We so enjoy serving the community that we love so much. Thank you.
