We are Mike, Rob and Ben, A Vietnam vet partnering with vets of the GWOT
campaigns. We are grateful to continue the tradition of veterans helping another generation of refugees, unfortunate victims of circumstances and decisions which they cannot now control. We're especially pleased to be affiliated with the enablers of FLANDERS FIELDS Ltd. Our all-volunteer team, linked to a sprawling virtual network of other volunteers, directly engages Afghans who are still in Afghanistan. Our team has no official external funding. We fund their emergency needs from our pockets, occasional private donations, and this GoFundMe project. Even with the generosity of our donors, the needs often overwhelm our capacity to respond. Your contribution of as LITTLE AS $10 MONTHLY insures we can respond effectively, on time.
The needs include an estimated cost for a family of 4-6 at about $150-$400, for food, fuel, and rent. Power outages are frequent, often lasting 18 hours or longer, making wood and coal essential for heat and cooking. Food prices have skyrocketed, so that food is difficult or impossible to afford. Added to the misery, many Afghans can't work due to lack of jobs and high security risks for appearing in public.
We are especially concerned for the children. The United Nations predicted that in 2021-22, about one million children would be at risk of losing their lives from freezing weather, malnutrition and starvation. The situation now is only getting worse. We already know many children died of these very causes in recent months.
