Mikaylah was diagnosed with congenital and congestive heart failure at 15, at which time she became hospitalized and was on a ventilator for nearly a month. She went to her aunt to recover, for what was supposed to be 3 months, while she was wearing an external defibrillator vest. On the day it was removed, she was set to go home to her dad, who was always her caregiver. Unfortunately, on that very day, her dad was hospitalized after previous stays in the hospital for heart failure. This last time, after many complications, he stayed for over two years, at which time he passed away one month after Mikaylah turned 18 and four months before she graduated high school.
Mikaylah was receiving Social Security to get by. Now, we just received notice that she no longer meets the qualifications for continued disability, even though days ago, she was admitted to the hospital for her heart complications. I have saved some money for her, but it's hardly enough to get her through a month or two.
