Mika, our coworker and beloved friend

Hi, I'm Krista.

Mika and I have worked together since 2019, meeting first at Cosmico, then at Colonia Verde, and finally joining forces again as members of the opening team for Cómodo. It's been wonderful getting to know Mika over these last few years and all over NYC.

As many restaurant workers know, when you are not able to work there are limited resources available, such as paid leave, to ensure you can provide for yourself. And when an unthinkable tragedy happens the few resources we have available to us do not last long.

A couple of months ago, Mika's partner, Dan, experienced a medical emergency that resulted in Dan entering a coma for 2 months. Mika adjusted her schedule and took additional days off to be by Dan's side. On January 3, 2023, Dan passed away.

Dan's passing has saddened everyone around Mika. Dan made it a point to visit Mika nearly every shift she worked at Cómodo and anytime we saw him enter the restaurant we saw Mika light up. Dan's love for Mika, and life, was palpable.

As Mika takes the necessary time to reflect and remember her life with Dan, she will take time off work. Her whole restaurant team would like to help support her in any way we can, to alleviate some financial stress, and show her that she is in all our hearts.
