Migrant Solidarity Fundraiser

Donation protected
Climate Camp Scotland  is fundraising for Migrants Organising for Rights and Empowerment (MORE). We're cycling from Edinburgh to Mossmorran in Fife to raise money for MORE and to raise awareness of the injustice done to communities in Fife by Shell and Exxon at the Mossmorran plant.

We offer no expectation of how this money will be spent as we fully respect the work and autonomy of MORE and those they support. Every donation will go directly to MORE.

Please contribute to this cause to show solidarity with those worst off in our society.

To make this cycle Covid-19 safe, we will cycle only in household groups of no more than 6 people. We will take maximum precaution during the cycle, wearing masks during breaks and maintaining social distancing at all times.

MORE are a Glasgow based group led by people with experience of the immigration system. During the pandemic they have been providing direct support to refugees and asylum seekers such as funds for accessing culturally appropriate foods and data top ups to keep in touch with family and support workers. Organisers have told us they need funds to continue doing this work, especially as accessing traditional funding avenues is not accessible to them. We know their work is necessary and it is vital it continues.

It is horrific that people seeking asylum are not having their basic needs met, or being treated with dignity within the current system. We believe that everyone should be appalled at this and support the work of MORE , No Evictions Network , the Unity Centre  and others supporting people being mistreated by the racist and inhumane immigration system and fighting for justice.

This issue is also fundamentally linked to the fight for climate justice. Those who are least responsible for the climate crisis are suffering from it the most, be they refugees or communities living beneath a flaring gas plant. the climate crisis is a racist crisis, and companies like Shell and Exxon, alongside the UK Government and its Home Office are responsible.

While big corporations and the rich can move freely across borders, millions of people who are forced to leave their homes are denied the right to find safety and live a decent life. Even those that secure asylum are often targeted, face daily discrimination and hardship.

We also understand Scotland’s historic responsibility in colonial systems that extracted wealth and resources across the global south, as well as our role in driving the climate crisis which is devastating many people’s homes and homelands. We stand behind refugees and asylum seekers in Scotland and are led by their needs.

This is why we will be cycling on the 3rd of October from Edinburgh to Mossmorran to raise funds for MORE. Please support us and share this Fundraiser.
