Midwifery Trip to Malawi
Donation protected
Hi! I'm returning to Malawi after 10 years - this time as a working midwife! I'm hoping to carry over some supplies to help make a lasting impact.
You might know that prior to becoming a midwife, I used to work in Malawi (The Warm Heart of Africa), managing a nonprofit focused primarily on public health education.
This March, I'm going back to volunteer at Kabudula Community Hospital.
The goal of this trip is to do some direct patient care but also provide more sustainable inputs like: educational materials, models, non-pneumatic anti-shock garments, suture, etc. I've asked the staff to speak with those at Kabudula about specific useful items, so the above are examples. I am hoping this might be a pilot project and plan to do more needs assessment/SWOT analysis while there.
In the long-run, a goal would be to maximize donated items and items that can be bought in-country. I do hope to engage local artists this year to sew surgical caps, for example. Money from this fundraise will not go toward my travel or personal expenses, only purchasing items to donate or invest locally.
