Hi Everyone,

I am a first time mama due end of June-early July. As you can imagine being an expecting single mother, I am both parts excited and nervous.

Aside from starting this parenting journey on my own, I was also furloughed from my jobs due to the pandemic as well as ran out of unemployment funding buying baby necessities.

Bringing my baby girl into the world during a global pandemic especially has allowed me to do some research in deciding on a home birth. This decision will ensure the most safe as well as loving environment for my daughter and I, without the pressure of medicine/ higher medical bills.

Being someone who is diagnosed and suffers from severe anxiety, I am fortunate enough to have my “tribe” of great supporters who will be Covid-tested and awaiting the arrival of my daughter in our home.

Approaching single motherhood, I wanted a labor experience where I will have the closest first connection between my daughter and I without the complications from an Epidural, Pitocin, or any other intervention. 

The natural home birth process will allow me to work with the rhythm of my body, resulting in shorter labor. A home birth ensures a lower rate of infections than that of hospital births. A midwife and a doula are trained professionals that are needed to guide me through the process. A doula will provide continuous physical, emotional, and informational support during as well as shortly after childbirth. A midwife would be more hands-on during labor. They are equipped with the same tools necessary and that would be available if I were at a hospital. For example, a midwife would track the baby's heart rate and will correct any problem with home birth through position changes.

It would mean nothing more than to have support, both emotionally and financially during this time. No gesture is too small, or unnoticed.
