Midmar Men’s Shed – New Build Project

Story

Midmar Men’s Shed are raising funds to pay for the flooring materials that we need in our new building, this includes underfloor heating pipes, solid insulation and the finish, a self-leveling concrete screed. Our shed is unusual in that unlike other men’s sheds, a problem that we faced when we were established in 2019 was that there was no public building for us to take over, so our first task was to create a shed using four redundant porta-cabins donated by a local farmer. This space has served us well for the past five years, but it is cramped, cold, leaky and has no “facilities”! We resolved therefore to build a new timber clad building next to our Village Hall. Last year, with significant support from several local building companies, we were able to lay the foundations and build them up to ground level ourselves. This year we aim to erect the building shell and make it wind and water tight before autumn arrives. To complete the floor we need hard cash to pay for the materials and hence this is the focus of this crowd fund appeal. We will of course do much of the installation work ourselves, after all, this is one of the reasons for establishing our shed, i.e. to bring everyone in our community together, helping ourselves and at the same time see the positive benefits that team work can achieve. It is very satisfying for everyone. We meet twice a week to work on both our own and community projects, we have also taken over responsibility for our Village Hall maintenance, a huge bonus for everyone in Midmar. Community projects that we have undertaken range in size from simple discrete activities like lawn mower repairs, creation of raised beds in the school garden, renovation of furniture to the largest, the complete replacement of a 20m span wooden footbridge across a local burn (stream). We strongly believe that once our new shed building is finished we will be able to attract additional members and contribute even more to the well-being of everyone. Please help us, to achieve this goal, and thank you on advance for your contribution and you can follow our developping story by viewing our website https://www.midmar.uk
