Micks Highland Way – Walking 150 Miles in Memory of Mick and for Suicide Bereavement Support

On the 28th of July, Anton and Jamie will lace up their boots and begin an epic 150-mile walk over 5 days—not just along the famous West Highland Way, but beyond its finish line at Fort William, pushing on for another 40 miles to end at the Silver Sands of Morar.

This isn’t just any walk. It’s Mick’s Highland Way.

Mick loved Scotland deeply. He adored its wild beauty, its lochs and mountains, and the breathtaking coastal sands at Morar—his favourite place of all. He was someone who found joy in the freedom of the land, who would have absolutely loved this kind of adventure. We’re doing this because we know he’d have been the first to say “aye, let’s go further.”

But this walk is more than scenery. It’s in memory of Mick, who tragically died by suicide over a year ago. When Mick died, he left a hole in many lives—but also a legacy of love and community. In his memory, his daughter Natalie and son-in-law Anton founded A Place Called Here, a suicide bereavement peer support group that offers safe spaces for people to talk openly about their grief and find community and healing.

Too often, those bereaved by suicide feel unable to speak the hardest truths, made lonelier by the stigma that surrounds suicide loss. A Place Called Here is breaking that silence, offering understanding, compassion, and a way forward for people who often have nowhere else to turn.

This walk is to raise funds so we can continue this desperately needed support. Every penny will go directly to helping anyone impacted by suicide—keeping our weekly groups free and accessible, running wellbeing events, and making sure no one has to carry their grief alone.

Each step Anton and Jamie take is not only for Mick, but for everyone lost to suicide. For those we miss. For those we still have. For those struggling right now.

Please, if you can, donate to support this cause. Help us honour Mick’s memory in the way he would have loved best: by journeying into the wild heart of Scotland, and making sure no one is left to walk their grief alone.

Thank you so much for your kindness and support.
