Help a Devoted Father Reunite with His Son – A Grandmother’s Plea

Hello, my name is Cheryl Smith, and I’m reaching out as a heartbroken mother and grandmother, hoping to find compassion and support in a time of great distress. I am raising this campaign on behalf of my son, Michael Smith, a devoted father of four who is currently fighting an uphill battle to maintain a meaningful, loving relationship with his 10-year-old son, Mikey—my beloved grandson.

Michael is one of the most selfless, hands-on fathers I’ve ever known. He’s spent years coaching Mikey in youth sports, attending every game, every school function, every important moment. He shows up—with love, with purpose, and with consistency. I’ve watched firsthand how deeply bonded Mikey is to his dad, and how much joy and security their time together brings him.

Unfortunately, due to an ongoing and emotionally charged custody dispute, Michael is being unfairly restricted from seeing his son. Despite his unwavering commitment and involvement, false narratives are being used to limit his time with Mikey and isolate him from day-to-day parenting decisions. The legal system, which is meant to support the best interests of the child, is being weaponized by someone more focused on control than co-parenting.

Michael recently lost his job, and though he continues to work part-time for a growing tech startup, the financial strain of legal fees, custody proceedings, and trying to rebuild a stable life has been overwhelming. He is doing everything he can to stay strong and protect his children from further emotional harm—but he cannot do it alone.

As a grandmother, I am not only fighting for my son—I’m fighting for my right to be in my grandson’s life, too. The pain of watching this unfold and being kept from Mikey has been immeasurable. Mikey deserves the love of both his parents, and the support of his extended family. He deserves peace, consistency, and the ability to thrive in a home where love—not conflict—is at the center.
