Michael Azabache’s Story: A Testament to Resilience

I am writing on behalf of my brother-in-law Michael Azabache, who came to America at 17 with his parents, two brothers, and a sister, leaving Peru in search of the American dream. They built a life in Altadena, California, where Michael worked tirelessly to create a home for his family. For 34 years, that home was a place of love and joy, where he and his wife raised their two sons and shared countless memories with their dog Bella and cats Gia and Copa.

On January 8, 2025, their lives were upended by the Eaton wildfires. At 3:15 AM, Michael and his family fled their home as flames closed in, leaving behind the house that had been their sanctuary. By the end of the day, the home and his son's car were reduced to ashes. The loss was devastating, as that house held decades of cherished memories, from the birth of his sons to family gatherings filled with laughter and love. While the loss is heavy, Michael is reminded of what truly matters: his family is safe, and the outpouring of support from friends and the community has brought hope in these difficult times.
