“Wherever the art of medicine is loved, there is also a love for humanity.”– Hippocrates
Mia grew up in Katy TX, graduated from Katy High School (KHS) and was in brigade and cheer. From a very early age, Mia had dreams of attending Louisiana State University (LSU) and becoming a medical professional. Upon graduating from KHS, Mia moved to Baton Rouge and attended Baton Rouge Community College (BRCC) to get her undergraduate degree and ultimate acceptance into LSU. While attending BRCC, Mia has maintained a full-time job, her own apartment (bills) and a strong performance in school. Her determined and purpose-driven attitude ultimately gained her acceptance at LSU, her dream school. Mia is now a senior at LSU. She still works full-time, paying her own way for her essential needs and housing. She is also a member of the Global Surgery Student Alliance, a medical professional club at LSU. Mia is well on her way to achieving her goal of graduating from LSU and becoming a medical professional.
As part of Mia’s studies, she has been presented with a unique opportunity to travel to Panama, Bastimentos – Central America, where she would work side by side with doctors and medical teams with the Volunteers Around the World (VAW) Global Health Association. This organization supports local underserved countries with access to essential medical care. In addition, VAW provides medical students, like Mia, with hands-on medical practice. Mia would be allowed to work in mobile medical clinics, learning about basic health care practices and health care services/systems.
This is a fantastic opportunity for Mia that we would like to help make a reality for her. Mia will need to pay out of pocket for this opportunity to learn, as well as the travel to and from Panama. As you can imagine a trip of this nature would place quite a burden on a hardworking and dedicated student like Mia. Those who know Mia, know she would not ask for help on her own, as she is an independent and driven young woman. We have started this “Go Fund me” on behalf of Mia, to take some, if not all, of the burden off Mia to make this opportunity a reality for her.
The medical profession has always been more than just the pursuit of a career for Mia, it is a vocation. Mia has always wanted to be a leader who gives back to the less fortunate than her. This trip with VAW and LSU’s Global Surgery Student Alliance will allow Mia to achieve her goals to help those less fortunate than her, learn from veteran medical leaders, and advance toward her goal of becoming a medical professional. We sincerely thank you in advance for anything you can do to help support Mia’s pursuit of her dream. Not many of us get to fulfill what God put us on the earth to do, so please help us continue to help Mia on her way to making a difference in people's lives and the world.
