Mia tiene solo 5 años.

Cinco años parecen mucho cuando hablamos de algunas cosas, pero para nosotros se sienten muy pocos. Son apenas los primeros capítulos de una vida que todavía tenía muchísimo por descubrir: más paseos, más lagartijas que perseguir, más tardes tomando el sol en la terraza, más personas por conocer, más aventuras y más momentos con la familia que la ama.

Hace unas semanas, nuestra vida cambió de golpe.

Mia comenzó a presentar episodios extraños que nadie lograba explicar. Lo que parecía algo aislado se convirtió en una búsqueda desesperada de respuestas. Pasamos por consultas, urgencias, análisis de sangre, estudios cardiológicos, electrocardiogramas, ecocardiogramas, estudios de orina, ultrasonidos y múltiples revisiones con diversos especialistas.

Durante semanas vivimos entre la incertidumbre y la esperanza, intentando entender qué estaba pasando.

Finalmente, una resonancia magnética nos dio la respuesta que jamás imaginamos recibir.

Mia tiene un tumor cerebral enorme.

Los especialistas nos explicaron que este tipo de tumores suelen crecer durante meses y que, en la mayoría de los casos, no existe una causa identificable ni algo que pudiéramos haber hecho para evitarlo. La explicación más cercana que tenemos es una de las más difíciles de aceptar: simplemente mala suerte genética.

Por la ubicación de la lesión, una biopsia implicaría riesgos muy altos, por lo que los especialistas trabajan con un diagnóstico presuntivo de glioma. Escuchar esa noticia fue devastador.

Lo más difícil es que, hasta hace muy poco, Mia seguía siendo ella misma. Seguía buscando lagartijas en los paseos, emocionándose por salir a la calle a contemplar el mundo, tomando el sol, pidiendo pollo, tacos y cualquier oportunidad para estar cerca de las personas que ama.

Y quizá por eso duele tanto.

Porque cuando la miramos no vemos un diagnóstico. Vemos a nuestra compañera, a nuestra familia, a una perrita que todavía tiene muchas ganas de vivir.

Después de iniciar tratamiento paliativo ocurrió algo que nos devolvió esperanza: Mia respondió extraordinariamente bien. Volvió a caminar con entusiasmo, volvió a buscar sus actividades favoritas y volvió a ser ella.

Gracias a esa respuesta positiva, los especialistas nos abrieron una posibilidad que inicialmente parecía fuera de alcance: realizar radioterapia especializada para intentar controlar el crecimiento del tumor y darle más tiempo de buena calidad de vida.

Sabemos que no existe una garantía absoluta.

No estamos buscando milagros.

Estamos buscando tiempo.

Tiempo para que siga siendo Mia.

Tiempo para más paseos, más tardes en la terraza, más premios masticables, más visitas de sus amigos humanos y perrunos, más momentos con nosotros.

Tiempo para seguir descubriendo el mundo.

El desafío es económico.

Entre consultas de especialidad, urgencias, resonancia magnética, estudios diagnósticos, hospitalizaciones, medicamentos y tratamientos iniciales, ya hemos agotado nuestros ahorros de emergencia.

Para poder continuar con el plan recomendado por los especialistas, incluyendo radioterapia, seguimiento neurológico, medicamentos y cuidados asociados, necesitamos reunir entre $200,000 y $250,000 MXN.

Hi, I'm Airam, and this is Mia.

Mia is only 5 years old.

Five years may sound like a long time in some situations, but to us, it feels far too short. These are only the first chapters of a life that still had so much left to discover: more walks, more lizards to chase, more afternoons sunbathing on the terrace, more people to meet, more adventures, and more moments with the family who loves her.

A few weeks ago, our lives changed overnight.

Mia began having strange episodes that no one could explain. What seemed like an isolated incident quickly turned into a desperate search for answers. We went through emergency visits, blood tests, cardiac exams, electrocardiograms, echocardiograms, urine tests, ultrasounds, and consultations with multiple specialists.

For weeks, we lived between uncertainty and hope, trying to understand what was happening.

Finally, an MRI gave us the answer we never imagined we would hear.

Mia has a large brain tumor.

The specialists explained that tumors like this often grow silently over many months and that, in most cases, there is no identifiable cause and nothing we could have done to prevent it. The closest explanation we have is one of the hardest to accept: simply bad genetic luck.

Because of the tumor's location, a biopsy would carry very high risks, so the specialists are working with a presumptive diagnosis of glioma. Hearing those words was devastating.

The hardest part is that until very recently, Mia was still completely herself. She was still chasing lizards on her walks, getting excited to go outside and explore the world, sunbathing on the terrace, begging for chicken, tacos, and any opportunity to be close to the people she loves.

And maybe that's why this hurts so much.

Because when we look at Mia, we don't see a diagnosis.

We see our companion.

Our family.

A little dog who still has so much joy, curiosity, and love for life.

After starting palliative treatment, something happened that gave us hope again.

Mia responded incredibly well.

She started walking enthusiastically again. She returned to her favorite activities. She became herself again.

Thanks to that positive response, her specialists opened a possibility that initially seemed out of reach: specialized radiation therapy that could help control the tumor's growth and give her more time with a good quality of life.

We know there are no guarantees.

We are not looking for a miracle.

We are looking for time.

Time for Mia to keep being Mia.

Time for more walks.

More afternoons in the sun.

More treats.

More visits from her human and dog friends.

More moments together.

More opportunities to keep discovering the world.

The challenge is financial.

Between specialist consultations, emergency visits, MRI scans, diagnostic testing, hospitalizations, medications, and initial treatments, we have already exhausted our emergency savings.

To continue with the treatment plan recommended by her specialists—including radiation therapy, neurological follow-up, medications, and ongoing care—we need to raise between $200,000 and $250,000 MXN.
