Our name is Joey and Sandra Cortinas and this is our story. We are the parents of three children. All of whom are grown up and a couple of them raising families of their own. Our youngest son Javi of 29 yrs. who lives in Midland TX. is a father of two children. His son Yandel of 8 years and his daughter Mia of 5 years. This campaign is for her cause. Our granddaughter Mia who is full of life as a 5 year old should be, has recently been diagnosed with leukemia. She was admitted to the hospital in Midland TX. July 2 2020. The Dr.'s tested her for COVID but came back negative. She was flown to Lubbock TX. for more testing due to her urgent condition that same night. After a series of tests the news of her test results came back as Leukemia. This was a shock and devastation for all of us as a family unit.
We are a God fearing family and believe faithfully in the power of prayer. Our Son and Daughter-in-law being so young are at a loss. As parents and grandparents supporting our children with courage and faith. Try to be strong for our children and assure them things will work out. Being grandparents to our oldest granddaughter find ourselves sad and depressed by what she will have to go through.
We have been a self sustaining family and we are not in the habit of asking for help from others. Now we find ourselves looking at options suggested by friends to seek financial help for our children on their behalf. This will be our first time seeking help for what is be a costly expense for our children.
At this point in time our granddaughter Mia Cortinas will have to be taken once a week from her hometown Midland TX. to Lubbock TX. for testing and tracking the progression of her illness. We anticipate she will have to go through the process of chemo to battle the leukemia. They will have to acquire accommodations for the duration of Mia's hospital stay. It is for this reason that we started this GoFundMe. The funds would be used to help pay for the medical expenses as they come in. It will also help pay for the accommodations and meal expenses while in Lubbock during her testing and treatments.
As most of us know modern day stresses it is hard enough to deal with when we are healthy and working. We are here to help our children deal with the stress of their financial needs that are about to make life much more difficult. As recent as these events have happened. We are responding proactively knowing what is to come. Expenses from hospitals, Dr.'s, treatments, etc. will be coming very soon.
If you can offer any financial assistance to help our children we would be greatly appreciative for your kindness and time for Mia's cause. As parents of faith we have done God's work for his glory. We ask in Jesus' name for help whether financial assistance or just a prayer for our family. Glory to God and all his kingdom.
The love we have for our children is limitless and will do what we can to help them with expenses that are about to unfold.
