Mevagh Fire Service - MCR to Donegal bike ride
Donation protected
Hi, my name is John Naughton and together with my cousins John McMahon and Darren Doherty, we are cycling 350km from Old Trafford, Manchester to Carrigart in Donegal to raise money for the Mevagh Voluntary Fire Service in Carrigart. I will be carrying out the first 50km alone to the ferry in Liverpool and will be hooking up with the John & Darren in Belfast where we will follow the coast road for 300km with planned stops in Ballycastle and Derry/Londonderry.
The decision to complete the fundraiser came about following the events in Creeslough last October where 10 people were killed in a gas explosion and numerous others injured. The incident was devastating for the local community in Donegal and had a huge impact on my friends and family, many who are residents in the surrounding area.
The Mevagh Fire service is staffed and run entirely from volunteers from the local areas and depends on fundraising as its primary source of income. They have saved countless homes and lifes since its inception in the mid 80s and provides a remakable service to the remote communities in the Shiphaven bay/Rosguill area, as was evidence during that fateful day in Creeslough last October.
Please give generously as all of the money raised will provide essential equipment and training for this amazing group of indiviuals who give there time and effort to help protect and care for the community each and every day.
Thank you for your support x
