This is my absolute best friend Nicole and her boyfriend Jake, who are due to have a bundle of joy join their family in March of 2021.
Nicole was going to start a new job but COVID changed everything. She recently started a job within the last couple of months but will not be receiving any sort of maternity leave pay. To add onto the financial stress Nicole & Jake had an appointment to find out what the gender of their baby was going to be. Instead of finding out the gender, they found out their precious baby has a mass on their lower back. They were sent to Boston Children's and Brigham Woman's to run multiple tests for both her and the baby. They found out that the mass was a sacrococcygeal tertoma which means that the mass is a germ cell tumor which later makes up the reproductive system in both men & woman. This specific mass is extremely uncommon and is only seen in one and every 35,000-40,000 babies a year! Nicole will need to have tests run until her scheduled c-section to keep an eye on how fast the tumor is growing, currently its just a little bigger then an orange. The baby will need to undergo surgery within 24 hours of birth to have the tumor and her tailbone removed. I will continue to post updates throughout the rest of Nicoles pregnancy. I completely understand if you can't afford to donate any money but I will gladly take baby clothes (gently used) , diapers/ wipes (sensitive), gas cards to help with getting back and forth to boston, gift cards etc. to help Nicole and Jake get through this time with just a little less stress.
