Hi, I’m Shanell, and I’m reaching out today because my heart is heavy for my sister, Dela. Recently, she suffered 

a mental breakdown. While she’s now safe, the emotional, mental, and financial toll she’s facing is immense. She’s been through so much, and right now, she’s in a fragile place and needs support in ways she would never ask for herself.

At just 25 years old, Dela has already faced more than most people will in a lifetime. Since she was a teenager, she’s been one of the strongest people I know. She’s fought tirelessly against mental health challenges that many couldn’t even imagine. But despite everything, she’s continued to push forward, always striving to build a better future. She’s worked so hard toward her degree in Speech Pathology at MTSU, building her life from the ground up, never letting her struggles define her. She’s now just a few credits away from graduating — an incredible achievement given everything she’s been through. But the weight of everything she’s carried has finally taken its toll, and now she faces a lifelong journey of treatment and recovery.

Right now, she’s facing many obstacles, which makes her recovery even harder. She’s been trying to manage on her own, but this crisis has shown me that she simply can’t do it by herself anymore. She needs help — help she has always been too proud to ask for.

My sister deserves the opportunity to heal, to have a safe place to stay, to finish her degree, and to finally experience success in a way she’s always dreamed of. She’s always been there for others; now it’s time for others to be there for her.
