Menlo Gives Back with Gift Cards

Donation protected
Dear Menlo,

So many people around our Bay Area community are suffering as a result of income loss amid the coronavirus-induced economic recession. To shop for daily necessities like groceries and hygiene products, many of these families now must dip into their savings or spend more than they can afford.

Knight Vision (Menlo School's community engagement club) is hosting a campaign to purchase gift cards to donate to those in need, with a goal of providing two hundred families each with a $30 gift card to either Target, Walmart, or Safeway. We would really appreciate any donation you can make to help relieve some of the economic pressure on low-income families in these especially tough times.

To many of us, $30 may seem like a relatively small amount of money; however, your donation will have a significant impact on recipients both financially and psychologically. Spent carefully, $30 can relieve the stress of having to feed a family even if for just a day or two. In addition to alleviating this financial burden, donations send a message of support that uplifts spirits in this difficult time.

In order to distribute the gift cards to families who need the most help, Knight Vision is working with the Ecumenical Hunger Program  (EHP) and with Sunday Friends . EHP distributes free groceries to financially vulnerable individuals and families in East Palo Alto several times a week; Sunday Friends provides educational services to help low-income families in San Jose break out of the cycle of poverty. Both of these organizations are in favor of giving gift cards to the families they serve, so our fundraiser will be reaching those whom the pandemic has affected most severely.

By contributing to this GoFundMe, you would be providing us with the funds necessary to purchase these gift cards, which we can then distribute to Sunday Friends and EHP. We are extremely grateful for any contribution you can make, and we know that the families who will benefit from your generosity will appreciate it as well.

If you know anyone who you think might also be interested in learning about or supporting our fundraiser, please share our GoFundMe with them!

Thank you so much for your support!
