Menherit's service learning PT trip to Haiti
Donation protected
Happy New Year, family and friends!
I am raising money for an upcoming service learning trip to Haiti in March. I am currently in the second year of a three-year Doctor of Physical Therapy program at New York Medical College (from which I will graduate in the Spring of 2020). The photo above is of me and my parents at my White Coat Ceremony in April 2018, which marked the transition from classroom learning to clinical practice. My fellow students and I will be volunteering our physical therapy skills in various clinical settings, including orphanages in Les Cayes and Ile-a-Vache and a mobile clinic in a rural village. We will be working with Tous Ensemble (for further information, please see https://fontenblog.wordpress.com), the only clinic in Southern Haiti that provides physical therapy, occupational therapy, and prosthetics for the people of that region; it has an abundance of patients but not an abundance of material resources with which to serve them. For too many people in Haiti, adequate medical care and physical therapy services are scarce—without suitable medical attention, something as simple as a fracture can lead to significant medical disability.
Your contribution will help cover my transportation and lodging costs. Please submit donations by mid-February—funds raised in excess of my goal will be donated to Tous Ensemble in the form of materials and resources. Donating to this service trip will enable me to enhance and hone my clinical skills, while serving my brothers and sisters in another part of God’s creation. Thank you!
