Memories for Paul

Hi, My name is Megan and I’m fundraising for my brother in law Paul.

Usually an extremely fit, healthy, bike riding, triathlon loving (46 year old - Sorry Paul!) man whose worlds been flipped on its head in the past 8 short weeks…

What started as a normal week leading into Mother’s Day 2026, Paul started getting leg pain / a swollen leg after attending hospital due to the pain, Paul was sent home with a suspected blood clot, the pain and swelling continued to worsen over the next few days so Paul went back to hospital and blood results showed a huge increase in infection markers so he was immediately referred for various scans and tests.

Fast forward over the next few weeks and there was not many days Paul didn’t attend a hospital (between Burton, Derby and Nottingham) for more tests / scans / and biopsies - The wait for results, unknown and uncertainty was enough to worry anyone whilst trying to maintain a level of normality for his 11 year old Type 1 diabetic daughter!

24th April - Paul got the heartbreaking news he had stage 4 cancer, rare, aggressive and already spread. What started in his biliary tract but already in the gall bladder, bile duct, liver & kidneys - not an easy diagnosis for anyone to digest and still no symptom in sight!!

The following week was made up of oncology appointments, chemo plans, Macmillan reviews and even more sat around in hospital corridors! Paul was delivered more devastating news that an operation or certain treatments was not an option as he has ulcerative colitis and things like immunotherapy would react in his body and not do the intended job so the only option Paul currently has is intensive chemotherapy but due to the severity of Paul’s cancer type unfortunately time is not on his side and chemo is to give him more time, rather than ever be cured but even with chemotherapy he has been given 12
months (which we are hoping and praying he absolutely smashes ever expectation!!)

Throughout the past nightmare 8 weeks for all of us as family. Paul & Katy (his wife) & Harper (daughter) have remained so incredibly strong, brave and positive!

The biggest wish right now (apart from some incredible miracle and giving cancer a big F you!) is to make as many special memories together as family, to spend time together (around hospital appointments & chemo schedules!!) and to make every moment count!

Thanks for reading our story & please if you can donate - Lets make sure Harper gets to spend what time left she has with her dad creating memories she can hold on to!

In the words of Paul “we’re here for a good time, not a long time”

Love, Megan xx
