Mullivaikkal Memorial Tree & Plaque in Washington, DC Area

Donation protected
On Sunday, May 18, 2025, Tamils in the Washington, DC area will gather to remember the 16th anniversary of the Mullivaikkal Massacre in Sri Lanka. The event will include an interfaith commemoration followed by a vigil at a nearby park. Prior to the event, we would like to plant a memorial tree and install a memorial plaque at the park which will serve as a permanent reminder of the tens of thousands of Tamil lives lost throughout the Sri Lankan armed conflict. The plaque will say, "In memory of the Tamil lives lost in the Sri Lankan Civil War". Planting trees to remember the Tamils who lost their lives during the armed conflict has become a common tradition throughout the Tamil diaspora. This has notably been done in Illinois, New Jersey, Toronto, Jaffna, and other locations.

We are requesting support from the community to help us cover the cost of the memorial tree and plaque at a public park in Howard County, Maryland. The cost of the tree is $500, and the cost of the memorial plaque is $335. More details can be found in the website below:
