The Village of Lafayette Station is raising money to purchase a bench and plaque for the lake area in memory of our dear neighbor, Phil Godwin. Phil, tragically, lost his life to a senseless act of violence earlier this week while being a good samaritan and chasing down a perpetrator who had critically injured an innocent victim passing through the city of Memphis. To know Phil was to "be his best friend". He was a lifelong Memphian and graduate of Harding Academy. Coming from a military family, Phil served our country as a Captain in the U.S. Army and with the Department of State, retiring after 30 years. His wife and other family members are still on active military duty. While we are still collecting quotes for the final costs, we ask that you consider helping with a donation to fund a memorial befitting this man, our friend who never met a stranger, who loved sitting on front porches and park benches & just talking with neighbors and passersby. He was a man of great faith in his Jesus Christ, a man who proudly served his Country, and a man that was fearlessly devoted to his family. He was a man that confronted evil, wherever he saw it, and did so, until his final breath. We will miss him terribly and hope this memorial will honor his memory for years to come.
