Memorial Fund honouring Carrie Adelman

In memory of Carrie Adelman we're raising money to benefit Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. AstraZeneca, Carrie's professional home since 2015, will honor her with a  donation to LLS (and a post-doc position at AZ in Carrie's name), and we hope friends and family can match the generosity through this fundraiser.

 

Carrie died February 21st, 2022, at Roswell Park Cancer Center, two weeks after her 47th birthday and three years after being diagnosed with AML. She fought the disease voraciously - but three relapses finally took their toll on her body - not her spirit. Throughout treatment, Carrie engaged with physicians on the fundamentals of treatment approaches. She took advantage of every available clinical trial hoping that scientists and physicians would continue to learn about the disease and treatments.

 

After completing a B.S. at the University of Rochester, she obtained her Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Genetics from Sloan Kettering Institute at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She studied DNA double-strand break repair. She conducted her post-doctoral research in DNA replication stress response at Cancer Research UK’s Francis Crick Institute. Carrie joined AstraZeneca in Cambridge, UK, in 2015 as a member of the Precision Medicine team then moved to the Translational Medicine team in 2017 to support translational endpoints for Lynparza studies in prostate cancer. Her work supporting the Phase 3 PROfound clinical trial of olaparib in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer has led to the first approval of a molecularly-targeted therapy in this setting.
