Abdoul "Razak" Sambare was brutally murdered at his home in Brooklyn on November 5th, 2023, at the young age of 37, leaving behind four children under 10 years old, his wife, and his three siblings. Our family is completely shocked by this tragedy and continues to ask why and seek justice. We are totally unprepared for all that goes into planning a funeral and doing our best to take it day by day.
Razak was deeply loved by his family, friends, and community. He was well known in the Flatbush community and touched many lives. To say Razak was a people person would be putting it lightly; the man basically lived outside across Flatbush. He was a selfless individual who always put others first and would go out of his way to help someone in need. Some examples include buying a new soccer ball for the kid so he could practice at Prospect Park to pursue his passion, spending time with lonely elders in the neighborhood that needed some company, and bringing a high level of party energy to those that needed it most.
Given that Razak was so loved by his many friends and community, we've decided to hold a memorial service before sending him back to Africa, his place of birth. We are raising money to assist with the unexpected cost of the memorial service in Brooklyn, funeral services, sending him back home, and the time his wife has taken off work. Any funds raised above the total fundraising amount will be put into a college fund for his children.
Razak was a father, a husband, a brother, and a son who will be deeply missed. We've been overwhelmed by the love and support shown so far, and we can't thank you all enough for helping our family during this difficult time.
--With love, the Sambare Family
