Help Our Beautiful Melly Beat Cancer ❤️

How can our fit, happy, healthy 11-year-old girl go from being full of life to being diagnosed with cancer?

On 4th July, our world changed forever when Melly was diagnosed with Stage 4 Burkitt lymphoma.

Before this, Melly had barely ever needed a doctor or been in hospital. For around five weeks, we knew something wasn't right. We sought medical help repeatedly but were turned away six times, being told it was viral, then tonsillitis, and even that there was nothing wrong with her.

As her family, we knew Melly wasn't herself. I eventually had to demand a blood test, after which she was admitted to hospital. Further tests finally revealed the devastating diagnosis.

Melly is now receiving intensive treatment at Birmingham Children's Hospital. Her treatment is expected to last around 5–6 months, and she still has a long way to go. We haven't finished treatment yet and we are definitely not out of the woods.

Our biggest hope is that Melly will be strong enough to ring the bell before Christmas, marking the end of her treatment and the beginning of a new chapter. ❤️️

During this journey, we have been incredibly grateful to Ronald McDonald House. We stayed there for 47 days, giving us a home away from home and allowing us to stay close to Melly.

Having somewhere to cook proper meals, do our washing and rest made such a difference during such a difficult time. The staff have been absolutely amazing and deserve so much recognition for the support they give families like ours.

As Melly still has a long way to go with her treatment, there is a chance we may need to stay at Ronald McDonald House again. Knowing that this support is there if we need it gives us so much comfort.

Once Melly gets through her treatment, we want to give her something amazing to look forward to.

We want to take Melly to Disney World in Florida and get her the puppy she has always dreamed of. ❤️ After everything she has been through, we want to fill her future with happy memories and give her something to smile about.

We also want to give something back to the people who have helped us through this journey. We would love to raise money for both Birmingham Children's Hospital and Ronald McDonald House, so that other families facing childhood cancer can receive the same incredible support we have experienced.
