Hi all,

I am supporting Mellon Educate & have been offered the opportunity this March to engage directly with the literacy programmes the charity is implementing across their township schools in Cape Town. I feel incredibly grateful for a chance to see first-hand the impact of Mellon Educate’s work on the ground. (And I know it’s last minute, but those who know me will understand lol).

Since 2013, Mellon Educate has focused on raising education standards in South African townships. In 2018, they launched the Mellon Educate Literacy Programme to tackle the high number of children unable to read for meaning. The programme helps children stay in education longer, while also creating meaningful employment as tutors for young adults.

To date, they have built or renovated 36 schools, providing improved education for over 65,000 children. Their long-term vision is to reach hundreds of thousands of learners across Southern Africa through a network of dedicated literacy hubs.

I have seen and heard second-hand through my niece Emma how impactful the literacy programme is and how important the overall work of this charity is for the children and young adults of these townships. To say it left a lasting emotional dent on me is an understatement.

Now for the ask! I have to raise €3,500 by the end of February (as in 5 weeks from now). PLEASE HELP ME! Any donation - big or small - will be GREATLY appreciated. It really is for a super cause! Also, any & all fundraising ideas welcome.
