A much-loved teacher who grew up in the close-knit community of Iluka, Melaney has spent her life making a difference in the lives of children, families and everyone lucky enough to know her. Her kindness, warmth and quiet strength have touched so many people.

In September 2024 Melaney received the devastating diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease (MND).

Despite facing one of life's cruellest diseases, Mel has met every challenge with incredible courage. In the midst of this journey in 2025 she and her partner, Brendan, welcomed their beautiful miracle daughter, Emmi. She is the light of their lives and a constant reminder that hope can exist, even in the darkest of times.

As MND progresses, everyday life is becoming increasingly challenging. The family home is no longer suited to Mel's changing mobility needs, and our greatest priority is to build an accessible extension to provide Emmi with her own bedroom.

We are also raising funds to purchase an accessible vehicle, giving Mel the freedom to attend medical appointments, enjoy family outings and continue creating memories with Brendan and Emmi.

Like so many young families, they never imagined facing these circumstances, and the loss of income has added another layer of pressure during an already unimaginably difficult time.

Anyone who knows Mel knows she would never ask for help herself. She has always been the person giving her time, energy and heart to others. Now, it's our turn to give something back.
