Megan and Cameron’s IVF Fund

Hello everyone!

If you’re on this page, you most likely know me, but if you don’t, I’m Megan and my husband, Cameron, and I have been trying to have a baby for 2 years. We unfortunately have not yet had a baby here earthside, we’ve had 2 angels. After my second miscarriage at nearly 20 weeks pregnant in February 2021, we were evaluated and told we have a great chance of having a healthy baby next time.

We decided to start trying again around June, but life had other plans. Cameron was diagnosed with a rare skin cancer called Merkel Cell Carcinoma. This diagnosis required a major surgery and 5 weeks of radiation treatments for him. Unfortunately, since his cancer was also present in the lymph nodes in his groin, he needed radiation in that area as well. Due to the location of the radiation, we cannot conceive naturally for at least 18 months after his radiation treatment due to risk of birth defects.

Cameron is thankfully cancer free currently and fully healed but this cancer has a high recurrence rate which could potentially lead to more radiation treatments in the future. This has lead us to where we are now, undergoing medical fertility treatment as we are hoping to start our family as soon as we can.

 

We’re blessed to have decent insurance, which has covered the majority of both of our medical bills over the past year, but most insurances lack fertility coverage. Since we live in Pennsylvania, fertility coverage is not mandated here. Through our journey so far we have spent a few thousand dollars on cryopreservation, testing and treatments that we’ve completed so far. We also completed 3 IUI cycles which were not successful for us. We are now going to start the IVF process which can cost 15-18K for one cycle.
