Meet Jiri "Jerry" Dinovsky.
Jerry, age 61, has lived on the streets of our neighborhood for 15 years. Just because he doesn’t live in a house, doesn’t mean that he’s not our neighbor. We are sharing Jerry’s story and asking you to support one of our neighbors.
We met Jerry slowly. We said hello when we passed him on the street. One day, Jerry knocked on our front door. He was in trouble. The City had notified him that they were going to confiscate all his wordly possessions, which were in shopping carts (or as he calls them, push carts) parked around the neighborhood.
We invited Jerry in, got to know him and helped him avoid his greatest concern, that the only things in the world that he owned, would be taken from him.
You can meet him and hear his story here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJdPNuSWSyQ
Our neighborhood would like to help Jerry.
Why? Our City just has its hands full and it just takes too long.
We’ve decided to take this matter into our own hands and help Jerry to have a proper home in our neighborhood. It’s not just a hand-out, it’s giving Jerry a hand, something we all need at one time or another.
We’ve set some criteria for Jerry.
1) Jerry has to find the apartment himself
2) Jerry has to agree that he will engage in the social services that are available in Los Angeles that will enable him to get his life in order
3) Jerry has to then find employment
And if Jerry agrees and commits to doing these two important things, then our “neighbors” and friends will help him by providing a roof over his head for one year.
That’s where you come in.
We are asking our friends & neighbors to make a tax deductible donation which you can do here: https://www.safeparkingla.org/donate/
Anything will help.
We hope that through this simple & random act of kindness, we can collectively change one man’s entire life.
Please consider joining us in this. If it works, then we only have 39,999 neighbors to go!! Can you imagine what might happen to all our homeless neighbors if all Angelenos gave just $100.00? We could very quickly put roofs over the heads of our neighbors, in the fastest way possible. We wish you a happy, healthy and homeless free world for 2017
