MEDLIFE Medical Mission Trip

Donation protected
Dear Friends and Family,

I want to share some exciting news with you. I have been blessed with an amazing opportunity to travel to Lima, Peru for a medical mission trip sponsored by MEDLIFE. I, along with a team of fellow WVU students, will leave on May 11th and return on May 19th.

During my time here at West Virginia University, I have become heavily involved with MEDLIFE, an organization whose mission is to build a worldwide movement to empower the poor in their fight for equal access to health care, education, and a safe home. The organization believes that, in order to improve the overall health and welfare of families and communities in need, a comprehensive approach is needed. With that goal in mind, MEDLIFE seeks to deliver aid through three broad avenues: medicine, education, and development.

Our team is comprised of students from WVU, who are all preparing for careers in the medical field. Since 2010, MEDLIFE’s work in Lima has focused primarily on a group of communities known as “Cono Sur” (Southern Lima), where almost 1 million people live in conditions of extreme poverty. Members of these communities live in small shacks, often made of reed mats or plywood and built into treacherous, rocky hillsides around Lima. Most of these communities lack access to water and electricity. MEDLIFE addresses some of the most pressing issues in these communities through mobile clinics and community development projects.

To further the organization’s mission, our team will be working at MEDLIFE mobile clinics in Lima. Our work at the clinics will bring high-quality healthcare directly to communities that lack access to basic medical resources. These clinics, which are staffed by local practitioners, offer basic medical treatment and preventative screenings to help patients who are in need of long-term assistance. During the seven-day trip, I will work as a volunteer helping to run the clinics and will be able to shadow medical professionals. In addition, I will learn about local medical practices, global medicine, and the effects of poverty on health.

I cannot express how excited I am for this opportunity! As a future medical professional, I aspire not only to learn more about the medical field, but to also discover more about myself and my desire to help others. One of my greatest hopes is that my passion for service and my willingness to help is strengthened during my volunteer work in Peru.

In preparation for my trip, I am raising financial support to help with my travel and expenses. The total cost of the trip will be $2,000. It would be a huge blessing if you would consider partnering with me in this amazing opportunity!

As you consider contributing, I also ask that you keep myself, the MEDLIFE team, and, especially, the people of Peru in your thoughts and prayers as we approach this trip. Whether you decide to partner with me financially or spiritually, I cannot express how much I appreciate your thoughts and prayers. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story and for your prayerful consideration of this amazing cause! I am so incredibly excited to see how God uses me and the MEDLIFE team to help the people of Peru.

With much love,

Hannah
