My name is Virginia Craft. I have been meditating for 12 years and have witnessed how transformative the practice is in building kindness, compassion, gratitude, and mindfulness -- traits that are so necessary at all times in life. With everything going on in the world today, we could all use more of these, right?
This has inspired me to want to create a safe space for anyone and everyone, of all spiritual and religious backgrounds, to be able to meditate freely, openly, and without judgment. Not only that, but to provide the opportunity to meet like-minded people who are also looking to simply become kinder, more compassionate humans.
Not everyone has the means to create a quiet space to sit and meditate; or maybe they do have the means, but their hearts long for the connection of community. This is their answer.
Instead of charging a fee for the meditation sits, I would like to offer the space for free, though open for those who feel they've benefited to give whatever they can so that others may reap the rewards in the future. This is based on the Buddhist virtue of 'Dāna,' which is 'cultivating generosity' -- that is, giving from the heart.
Working with another member of the community, I have been able to obtain use of "The Sanctuary Yoga & Pilates Studio" in Gunnison to hold these meditation sittings. Including rent for the space, purchasing meditation cushions, and advertising, there are a few expenses that I will need to cover before the meditation sits are up and running, which is why I have created this campaign.
The Sanctuary -- the future home of the meditation sits, with your help!
So I ask you, even if you don't live in the Gunnison Valley of Colorado, to give what you can to support this venture. As an act of cultivating generosity, if you feel that you've benefited from meditation in the past or present, know someone who has benefited, or simply support the idea of creating kinder, more compassionate, more mindful people in the world, then please donate what you can.
Anything and everything is accepted with an open heart of gratitude and love.
