Our brother Tim (aka Timmy) McDowell had a severe stroke on February 22, 2023. In those first days in the hospital, his doctors discovered that he'd already had several mini-strokes before this bigger one, and diagnosed him with a condition called "amyloid angiopathy."

Tim was in the hospital for several days in Covington, KY, then was transferred to a rehab center nearby. Unfortunately, he has not regained back much of what he lost from the stroke. He cannot walk, his speech is extremely difficult to understand, he has bouts of extreme confusion and memory loss, and his left side is paralyzed. His team at the rehab center has told us that he will need to be in a long-term skilled nursing facility because he continues to require high levels of care (he needs to be fed and changed, and he can only be moved safely using a hoist lift).

Tim keeps asking to "go home to Wisconsin," which is where he was already intending to move this spring. He is growing increasingly depressed since he has had to face most of this difficult experience on his own. We call every day to check in on him, but we all live too far away to visit him in any regular way. We are working hard to find a skilled nursing facility in Wisconsin close

enough for Linda to visit him often. However, we will need to pay out of pocket for him to be medically transported from Kentucky to Wisconsin, which costs $5,000. We're hoping our cousins and aunts/uncles in the big, extended McDowell clan might be able to help us meet Tim's medical transport fees so he can be near his family!
