Healthcare Service Trip to Guatemala

Hi, my name is Rachel Donovan. I have been a midwife and healthcare worker throughout my career. I'm raising funds for a two-week healthcare service trip to Guatemala in January 2023. This project is all about sharing our abundant medical resources with an underserved part of the world.

This trip is being organized and led by Luis Mendez. Luis is a healthcare worker who has brought groups, 40 and counting, to Guatemala since 2009 with the mission of building relationships, implementing and expanding basic skills and offering some of what we’re so fortunate to experience in healthcare services here. It’s a grassroots effort that spoke to me, and I’m excited to be part of it. Our focus is on emergency services (which were often only medical taxis before these projects) and midwifery because there is a high need and low availability of education and care. Our work will be a combination of educational exchanges and working side by side with these groups providing care and offering, as desired, options to expand skills. I’m excited about working with rural midwives and developing other skills; there’s always something to learn.

Funds will support the basics of the trip and materials/supplies which will go with us in place of checked luggage. Donations above this goal will be used for additional supplies, equipment, and the next scheduled service trip.
