Medical Relief for Emmy's Injuries

Donation protected
My name is Geri Reinle and I’ve decided to start this fundraising page on behalf of my daughter, Emmy Meier due to some major medical obstacles and burdens she is facing. On Feb 4th, 2025 she was skiing at Perfect North Slopes when she had a minor fall due to hitting deep divots made by a snowboard and her skis didn’t detach from her boots properly. Her injuries include multiple broken bones, torn ligaments etc and she will require multiple surgeries- spaced out over the next 6 months- and will slowly learn to walk again.

She broke her fibula and tibia on her right leg near the ankle and tore her deltoid ligament which was all repaired in surgery, yesterday, by Dr Hamilton with Kentucky Bone & Joint Specialists. The surgery was successful with the implantation of a device called a Paragon Reflex an incision was also made on the opposite side of her ankle and repaired her deltoid ligament which was torn as well. She will remain on no weight baring limitations for the next 6-8 weeks followed by being in a boot for 8-12 weeks along with intense physical therapy.

Beyond that, she also broke her fibula and her tibia on her left leg and tore her MCL, LCL, ACL and meniscus in her left knee along with a few other issues her surgeon, Dr Coy discovered as well. This too will require at least one surgery and will be non- weight baring for some time. The estimated medical expense for this surgery will likely be over $50,000.

Being that both her right AND left legs are broken and both require surgery, her healing and recovery will take much longer than, double if not more because she must heal her right leg/ankle entirely and be weight baring and able to stand prior to operating on her left leg. She’s currently wheelchair bound for up to 6 months, will be unable to work or drive and her medical bills are mounting plus she won’t be able to bring in income for her family during this time - it may be 8 months before she can even begin to consider working again. This means her family is now a one income family for the foreseeable future: The surgery yesterday was $61,000 alone - this doesn’t include all of the hospital and ortho visits, medical supplies and devices Etc and the estimate for her left leg will likely be just as expensive, not to mention months and months of intense physical therapy.

To only complicate things further, Emmy was hit by a drunk driver in 2014 and her left arm was ripped from body leaving her permanently injured for the rest of her life. Not having her legs now has put a whole new level of strain on her past injury (pictured in the collage above) and so she is also working with a shoulder specialist within the same Kentucky Bone & Joint clinic for the collaboration of all specialist to make sure her recovery, though likely even more prolonged due to her existing injuries goes as smoothly as possible. They may end up deciding that an in-patient recovery plan at a facility like Cardinal Hill may be her best option.

Emmy is a wife, mother of two precious girls, 6 animals and has always worked hard to balance her home life and work life for the benefit of her family. She’s also incredibly active, whether it be skiing, water sports, swimming, hiking, biking, sledding or making it to all of her children’s extracurricular events and is always planning an adventure for her girls and husband to go on. She’s known for putting others needs before her own and the seriousness of her injuries have thwarted all of her activities and have mentally challenged her as well. Despite all of that , she’s remained in good spirits and she’s very determined and dedicated to getting herself well as soon as possible .

I’m coming to you today to ask, if you’re able, no matter how small or large the donation, to help us provide Emmy, Paul and the girls with some financial relief during these incredibly trying times. We appreciate your generosity more than words can describe.
