Medical Mission to Eswatini

Donation protected
I’m going to Africa! Eswatini in particular. I am absolutely honored to have been chosen to be a part of this special medical mission trip (keeping reading to find out what makes it so special ). The trip will run from October 25 to November 5.

In 2012 K2 the Church began partnering with a Carepoint in Ekudzeni (one of the towns in Eswatini) through Children’s Hope Chest. Since 2013 they have consistently been sending teams to help foster this relationship every 6-8 months. Some of these trips were medical specific - they would set up a clinic to help treat the children and adults of Ekudzeni as best they could. People would walk hours to be treated. Eventually, the medical trips were stopped because the demand for care was too high and the number of doctors/nurses available was too low.

Now, I had always wanted to do this trip to Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), but felt I could be best utilized on a medical mission. But I was too late! Like I had mentioned, medical trips were placed on hold and the last one had been sent a few years before. Until one Sunday, K2 announced that the Chiefs of Ekudzeni asked K2 specifically for a medical trip!

The original hope of starting the medical trips at the Carepoint was to build rapport within the community with Western medical care. Historically, Eswatini had the highest HIV rate and the lowest life expectancy. Due to this, the Eswatini government had provided free clinics around the country with Western treatments for HIV but they were not being utilized due to skepticism of the medicine. But much has changed over the years! Now, Eswatini no longer has the highest rate of HIV and life expectancy is rising. So, the Chiefs of the community wanted a chance to show the government just how many people are now coming out to be treated by Western medicine. Their hope is to use this information to have a free clinic built closer to Ekudzeni and the Carepoint. How amazing!

I immediately felt called to be a part of this special trip. This was what I had been waiting for! I am truly humbled to have been chosen to be a part of this amazing team.

The cost is daunting ($3600) and almost frightened me away from applying, but I know without a doubt that this is what I am meant to be doing. And every penny has a purpose! A large chunk of the cost is just paying for the flight over, which currently is one of the longest flights operated in the world.

Now, I’d like to ask for your support. All it would take is 36 people saying yes to $100, or 72 people saying yes to $50, or 144 people saying yes to $25. You get the picture! And that is doable. The first half of payment is due July 28 and the rest by September 22.

Thank you in advance for your consideration and please feel free to share!
