Medical Expense & Relocation for Mother and Nana

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Angelique Ayoade and I am seeking support for my mother and grandmother during a particularly vulnerable time for our family.

Since May 7th, 2023, my mother Leigh has been in Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC. She was first admitted due to severe, unrelenting diabetes flare ups, causing her to have uncontrollable muscle spasms, peripheral neuropathy, mental confusion, and not being able to stand without falling. She has been discharged and immediately admitted back to the hospital a handful of times over these 4 months, each time her condition worsening. While in the hospital seeking treatment, she contracted C. Diff. Colitis multiple times from the hospital which further contributed to her illness and mental confusion. The hospital could not figure out how to treat her/what the root of the problem was during her 4 month stay. She was recently admitted to the mental health facility Copestone with the tentative determination of Parkinson's dementia and psychosis. Prior to her psychosis, she alleged SA by a Mission ambulance worker. Since she is having a bad reaction to the antipsychotics in the form of seizures, there is currently no telling the timeline of how much longer she may be in their care or when she may improve or be diagnosed. As you can imagine, while I am grateful to Mission and Copestone for caring for my mother, my faith in them is dwindling.

During this time, my 88 year old grandmother has been making do the best she can without her primary caregiver, my mother. While she is getting by alright, this circumstance is incredibly difficult mentally, physically, and financially for her and us as a family. I have been assisting her with online grocery-drop offs, but with me being located in Los Angeles, there is a limit to the help I can provide for her around the house and caring for their cats.

As you can imagine, a hospital and psychiatric stay the past 4 months has incurred countless medical fees. With my grandmother having only social security and my mother relying on disability, this has produced an overwhelming financial strain on our family. I graduated USC in December with a degree in theatre and this transitional year has been anything but easy. The strike has been difficult for everyone, and like many actors I am serving to get by. I am a bit of an island out in Los Angeles with my mother and grandmother being my closest family and support system. I have been unable to take time off work and assist them in North Carolina without losing my apartment. I have been struggling to keep my life and dreams in LA afloat, and knowing I don't have the financial means to drop everything and help my mom and grandma kills me inside.

Ultimately, I would love to be able to possibly transition my mom to a different care facility in North Carolina, all suggestions and experiences welcome. The money would immensely help with medical expenses, aiding my time off work and travel expenses to North Carolina, as well as possible relocation of my grandmother and mother to affordable housing in California so I can help care for them more immediately (which finding affordable housing in and around Los Angeles is another beast in itself, if anyone has guidance in this department I would love the help!)

Thank you anyone who took the time to read and listen. If you know me, asking for help is one of the most uncomfortable and vulnerable experiences for me, and I appreciate all prayers and love sent. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
