Sam and I moved to Nebraska to be close to his family in February of last year and upon doing so we lost our California health insurance.  

We found a house to rent in Nebraska then shortly after moving found out we were expecting our second baby. Hooray, right? Not so much....Trying to get insurance through Nebraska was nothing short of a nightmare. We couldn’t get anyone on the phone, we were on hold for hours to then be disconnected every single time. They denied us Medicare coverage and we couldn’t afford the marketplace plans we were offered from insurance companies. 

So there we were, stuck between a rock and a very hard place with a baby brewing and a potty training toddler. Things were stressful but I needed to get going with prenatal care and so we decided our only option was to get care ASAP and deliver our baby as self pay.

Fast forward 10 months and now we have a beautiful baby boy and a fully potty trained toddler, we are extremely grateful and #blessed for that. However, we now owe $16,000  for prenatal care, labor and delivery, postpartum care and pediatric care for a newborn. 

We still don’t qualify for Nebraska Medicaid and only Sam qualifies for an ACA plan. Since I am a stay at home parent and have no income I would typically qualify for Medicare but they keep denying us because of Sams freelance job.

So here we are, asking our friends and family for help. It’s not something we take lightly and would not do something like this if we didn’t really need help. 

Something needs to be done to help families get the proper health coverage they deserve and need to thrive. 

We can not thank everyone enough for taking the time to read about us and help out if you can. It’s not an easy thing to do but we are holding our heads up high and asking for help before things get too overwhelming.
