As students at the University of North Texas, we know the importance of having the right fuel to focus, grow, and thrive. Unfortunately, many of our neighbors don't have the same opportunity. In the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, 1 out of 6 people are affected by food insecurity-over 744,370 individuals across 13 counties. Even more heartbreaking, 34% of this number are children. In 2024, reports showed that 16.1% of people in our area are now facing hunger, making the mission of the North Texas Food Bank more urgent than ever: "To close the hunger gap in North Texas by providing access to nutritious food."
Every dollar donated to the North Texas Food Bank helps provide access to three healthy meals for those in need, and 95% of their resources go directly to hunger relief programs. With your support, our goal of raising $500 could go towards more than just food—it could fuel the trucks that deliver meals to families, support the warehouse operations that keep shelves stocked, and maintain the storage that keeps food fresh and nutritious. Each contribution strengthens a system that makes sure healthy food isn't just accessible, but sustainable for people who need it most.
By giving, you're not only helping to feed individuals who are struggling; you're helping to fuel their health, their future, and their hope. As UNT students, we believe in the power of community, and together, we can make a tangible difference in the lives of our North Texas neighbors. Please join us in supporting the North Texas Food Bank—because no one should ever have to choose between hunger and health.
