     Meals Ready 2 Donate's goal is to deliver, through a meal, a message of hope to less fortunate that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive and patriotic citizens.

Just a donation of $5 will ensure those less fortunate in the Jacksonville, NC area will have a nutritious meal today. 

Background:

     I have had the pleasure of serving over 10 years in the United States Marine Corps. Throughout my service I have had the opportunity to travel the world and experience many different cultures in Asia, Europe, the Middle East and right here in America. This exposure has taught me a very humbling lesson: "No matter how bad my current situation may be, there is someone who has it worse." This invaluable life lesson has inspired me to make a change and start the Meals Ready2Donate program.
      While at a training event in Hawaii, I witnessed many of my fellow Marines (including myself) waste a TREMENDOUS amount of food. We dined on Meals, Ready-to-Eat throughout the training event. Breakfast, lunch and dinner came out of those brown bags. If you are not familiar with the product, each MRE has a GREAT deal of food in them. Each MRE has an average of 2,000 calories per serving; one package could sustain a person for a day. At three packages per Marine per day, the amount of food wasted was UNBELIEVABLE. Thinking of those that have it much worse than we did, my thoughts instantly went to the many homeless in Hawaii. I decided to put one of the left over MREs in my seabag and figured they would make good use of it. They appreciated it way more than I expected. With that, an idea was born.
      Much like a Meal Ready-to-Eat, MRD prepackages food suitable for consumption without the need of kitchen appliances. The selfless donations from yourself and others like you will ensure that those who are less fortunate have their fundamental needs of food and water realized. Additionally, your contribution plays a key role in uniting members of the United States Marine Corps into a common cause of food collection and distribution.

Meals Ready 2 Donate Activity:

     The Meals Ready 2 Donate activity is the collection and distribution of food throughout Onslow County.  MRD key volunteers shop, package, market and distribute food products to Onslow Community Outreach. This soup kitchen will act as distribution points for food and other donations to be accessed by less fortunate.

Meals Ready 2 Donate Mission:

     The mission of Meals Ready 2 Donate is to collect food items, particularly Meals and distribute the food to soup kitchens in the community.


Meals Ready 2 Donate Objectives:

      The objectives of Meals Ready 2 Donate are to help less fortunate citizens throughout the community have their fundamental needs of food and water realized; to play an active role in the development of our community’s most valuable resources – our citizens; to unite members of the United States Marine Corps in the common cause  of a food collection and distribution campaign; and to contribute to a better community for the future.
