Meals on Wheels Bike Night 2021

Canceled due to Covid-19:  The very successful Wheels for Meals Bike night that was scheduled for September 19th has been canceled. Last year’s event helped not only raise funds but even more importantly raised awareness of the program. Meals on Wheels of Greater Pittston is open with some changes. Due to the Covid-19 crisis Meals on Wheels of Greater Pittston had stopping serving meals for only a short time. On March 23rd it was decided to cease operations but only two days later Dante LaFratte's Catering offered help. Dante has been preparing and prepping dinners with a new schedule that lets volunteers come in on the weekends and deliveries are more flexible. Prior to this paid employees were used for very early morning starts with the drivers delivering the meals quite early.  

Save the Date:  Plans are underway for the Meals on Wheels Golf Tournament at Emanon Country Club on June 18th, 2021. 



Meals on Wheels of Greater Pittston is not federally funded or connected with other similar groups in the State relying on donations. Operations are funded solely by donations form the community and businesses.  

Each week day, the kitchen staff gathers in Pittston to prepare hot meals, make sandwiches and serve up containers of fruits and desserts.  
A team of volunteers, consisting of a driver and a runner, pack the food in containers and deliver the meals. In some instances, the Meals on Wheels volunteers are the only visitors these residents receive on a daily basis.

Over 31,000 meals are served each year to needy residents of Avoca, Dupont, Duryea, Hughestown, Jenkins Township, Laflin, Pittston, Pittston Township, Plains Township, West Pittston, West Wyoming and Yatesville. Currently, Meals on Wheels of Greater Pittston serves 60-plus individuals and the need continues to grow.
