Måkevakta is a volunteer-based organisation dedicated to protecting and helping gulls in Oslo, Norway. In a city where wildlife and urban life collide, gulls are often misunderstood and overlooked—yet they are an essential part of the coastal ecosystem. Måkevakta exists to give these birds a second chance at life.

Since our founding in 2023, Måkevakta has focused on the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of injured, sick, and vulnerable gulls. Many of the birds we help are victims of fishing lines, plastic pollution, traffic, human conflict, or starvation. Through rapid response, hands-on care, and close monitoring, we ensure that every bird we take in receives the best possible chance to recover and return to the wild. To date, more than 300 birds have been successfully rehabilitated and released, each one a powerful reminder that compassionate action makes a real difference.

Our work is driven by commitment, knowledge, and respect for wildlife. Every rescue requires time, medical supplies, food, transport, and coordination with veterinarians and rehabilitation partners. Måkevakta operates because people care—people who believe that even the most common birds deserve protection, dignity, and help when they suffer.

Your contribution directly funds emergency rescues, medical treatment, rehabilitation facilities, and the daily care required to nurse gulls back to health. With your help, we are able to respond quickly when a bird is in danger and continue our mission throughout Oslo’s streets, harbours, and coastline.
