My brother Rob is currently unhomed, living in the woods on the Sunshine Coast in a tent. Recently, during a big windstorm, a large tree fell near his tent, nearly crushing him while he slept. Rob became homeless within a year of us losing our mother last fall. Mom's presence was stabilizing as he lived with her and she provided him with some integral support. Rob is an amazing self-taught musician who can play Led Zeppelin like Jimmy Paige, as well a self-taught visual artist with a wicked sense of humor and a deep tender love of animals! If I could purchase a van for him to live in, he'd just need somewhere to park it, an affordable shelter. He's lived in small spaces before and is incredibly organized and clean (moreso than his little sister;) Unfortunately he's been squeezed out of the rental market and could not successfully live with a roommate because of his smoking habit, lack of employment and the stigma of living with a mental illness. He's waitlisted for housing but there is little hope of him getting in within the next five years. He's currently leaning on available community resources. Housing is a human right.
