Maya’s Wheelchair Hire

After a long battle of trying to figure out what was causing Maya’s discomfort, she was finally diagnosed with hip dysplasia and dislocation earlier this year. In a few days time Maya is scheduled to undergo an operation on her hip, creating a socket to fully cover the ball portion and hopefully stop her dislocations. The surgery will leave her in a cast for the first 6 weeks and recovery is expected to take an entire year.

Sadly, just days before her operation Maya’s wheelchair referral has been unexpectedly rejected, leaving her family to find one to hire at such short notice. A wheelchair is essential in Maya’s recovery, for her to be able to move around and participate in daily life. Maya will also need specialised adaptations to help aid her recovery with as much comfort and independence as possible.

Maya has been extremely brave since the start of this journey. Anyone who has had the pleasure of meeting her will know just how much brighter she makes the world. Her sense of humour and personality leaves nothing but a smile and I know she’ll steal the hearts of everyone she meets in hospital!

My aim is to help ease the financial pressure on Maya’s family and cover the cost of her wheelchair hire, which we have estimated to be at least £300. Any donation, no matter how big or small is hugely appreciated and will go directly towards the wheelchair hire, purchase of a car seat or other equipment needed for Maya, while she heals.
