I’m attempting the Maui Nui Swim. It is a multi-channel ultra marathon, known for strong currents and rough conditions, in the Pacific Ocean, and has been completed by 33 swimmers. I love swimming, but I'm a law professor, not a trained swimmer or athlete, so if I complete one channel it will be a major achievement. I have trained hard and hope to raise $5000 to support communities affected by the 2023 Maui wildfires.
Maui Nui requires swimming between the Hawaiian islands of Maui, Lanai, and Moloka’i, crossing one ocean channel per day over three sequential days. It is a crow flies distance of ~27 miles/43 km, though currents make it, on average, a 37 mile/60 km swim. There are cookie-cutter sharks and jellyfish (hopefully sea turtles too!) but I will have a support boat beside me throughout (thank you Steve!) and, incredibly, one of my law school room mates has volunteered to join the local crew as my feeder (thank you Robyn!)
I will return to Maui to sleep each night, so I’m fundraising for PONO Legal , a fantastic Maui-based, female-led organization that provides free legal services to communities affected by the Maui wildfires. Please help me achieve my goal of raising $5000 to support their community-based work! (I'll cover the GoFundMe site fees so every $ you donate will go direct to Pono Legal).
