Hi, my name is Kenedi and I am a 3rd-grade teacher on the island of Maui, HI. The Maui fires have left a trail of destruction, affecting homes, communities, and schools. The devastation is truly incomprehensible. We are immensely grateful for the generous monetary donations the residents of Maui have received in order to provide immediate support and relief for those affected, such as toiletries, food, clothes, gas, etc. With that said, support can't stop there. I am starting this fund for educators that were impacted by the Lahaina and Kula fires, whether they lost a home, apartment, car, loved ones, or whatever it may be. I am aware that so many people on this island are in need, but I also see this as an opportunity, as a fellow educator, to support the teaching community on this island. There is a huge teacher shortage here in the state of Hawaii, much like many other parts of our country. With the extremely high cost of living, limited housing and resources, teachers often work 2 jobs to make ends meet to support themselves and their families. Although the emotional burden these fires have caused is irreversible, by donating to this fund, you can help relieve some financial burden of these educators. As they rebuild their lives, homes, and classrooms, they need our support now more than ever.
