My name is Kyle Duperron, and I had the good fortune of meeting Matt back in 2005. At the time, a group of friends had just moved down from northern Alberta and were renting a place on Capitol Hill in North Burnaby. That’s when we met Matt, this former Ontario native, Canadian Arms Vet, sleeveless, guitar playing beauty of a human.

Our dear friend Matt's Cancer journey began back in December of 2023, 3 days before Christmas with a Stage 4 Colon Cancer diagnosis. Which came as a great surprise considering Matt kept one of the healthiest lifestyles including: daily exercise, healthy eating and an avid outdoor lifestyle.

Matt had surgery 1 month later in January 2024, at Ridge Meadows hospital in Maple Ridge. Matt tightened up his already healthy lifestyle, by cutting alcohol, all unnatural sugars, any processed food or stress. A strict diet, supplements, and an array of alternative medicines, including naturopathic support and treatment, he threw everything at the wall to fight to be with his family. This proved effective and Matt's condition was mostly stabilized. Daily walks to the River with his daughter Clara, jam sessions with Mason and Soccer in the backyard with Lane filled Matt's days with his health improving. Matt, Jess and family were enjoying life to its fullest despite the early prognosis by doctors.

At the insistence of doctors, Matt reluctantly accepted radiation treatment in the Spring of 2025, which took an incredible and painful toll on his body and ultimately caused a recurrence elsewhere in his body. Things improved somewhat once he recovered from radiation, but only for a short period and his quality of life was declining drastically. He fought to get one more camping trip in with his family in August (the only one he managed that year) and it was an absolute highlight for him and so incredibly important to be back in his happy place with them.

In the Fall of 2025, Matt's health began to decline and further tests showed that his cancer had spread significantly. Although his gut instinct had told him all along that his body would not tolerate chemotherapy, he accepted it as a final option. Within 2 weeks of treatment he had 3 serious heart episodes with the risk of heart attack and it had to be stopped immediately.
Over the Christmas holiday Matt returned to the hospital for 2 weeks, and had two crucial and life-saving procedures in the hopes that he would have more time and quality of life.
Unfortunately he was back in hospital a month later and spent another 3 weeks, while waiting for a room at hospice.

Currently our dear friend Matt is in Hospice care in Port Moody, and spends his days with the love of his life Jess, his (almost) 3 year old daughter Clara and Jess's boys Mason and Lane.

Please consider sharing your love in the form of a donation which will help Jess, Clara, Mason and Lane as they navigate the next chapter of life.

Love to you all
