My name is Matthew Durchanek and I am raising funds to complete my Eagle Scout project for the benefit of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Abingdon.
My project contains 3 separate parts:
First, I will be replacing the "Little Free Library" that currently stands outside of the Church. The current library is in poor shape and is too small, so it will be replaced with a newer, bigger library made out of composite materials that should hold up for many years ahead.
The second part of the project is to expand the flowerbed at the entry way to the Parish House and offices of the Church. This area is where the free Little Free Library will be located and is where the Church hosts a lot of community events. This is the most expensive part of the project as I will be building a 50-foot stone block retaining wall to increase the size of the flower bed and better define the space. It will also increase the space to more plants in an effort to make a welcoming entry way to the building.
The third part of the project will be located at the Chapel. There is a utility area on the side of the Chapel that is prone to becoming muddy and slippery. We will be excavating the area to provide better drainage by replacing the mulch and flowerbed with 4 inches of gravel. I will be adding steppingstones to create a walkway alongside the chapel.
I will be extremely grateful for any donations that are given for this project.
